1. Keep your nails clean and dry.
2. Cut nails straight across. Use sharp scissors or nail clippers. Around the nail lightly into the tips for maximum strength.
3. Keep nails shaped and free of snags by filing with an emery board.
4. Do not bite your nails or remove the epidermis. Doing so can damage the nail.
5. Do not use your nails as tools, such as pop open the box.
6. Cut toenails regularly. Keep them short will minimize the risk of injury and damage.
7. When toenails thick and difficult to cut, soak your feet in warm salt water. Mix one teaspoon of salt per pint of water and soak for 5-10 minutes.
8. Avoid "digging out" ingrown toenails, especially if they are infected and sore. If you are suffering from ingrown toenails, see a dermatologist for treatment.
9. Wear properly fitted. Just replace the shoes you wear every day. Wear flip flops in the pool and in the public shower. This reduces the risk of infection caused by a fungus that can get in your toenails.
