Grow Long Strong Nails

Part 1 of 3:

Good nail habits :

1. Stop biting your nails. Yes, it's pretty hard. But they have some bitter tasting polishes on the market. Go to the grocery store and pick up one. You can use it on your bare nail, or on top of polish, the only thing is, they may have to be re-applied every few days for the bitter taste to stay.

2. Keep nail files around. Just file once a week. Depending on genes, nails may break easily. Nails often break if they are uneven, and nails naturally grow unevenly. So stash files everywhere, and whenever you see unevenness, file them all to the same length, shape, and size. Make sure to file in the same direction, to prevent nail breakage. Replace your file every month, or even before the grain smooths out.

3. Drink water. Your nails will love you for it. You can also take multi vitamins to speed up growth and lotion helps keep the moisture in.

4. Try to handle more natural items. Swap plastic for wood, fabric for leather, etc. You can do this by simply buying more natural items, so that means no sweets! It's hard but if you get off the sugar for a while, your nails will grow stronger and won't break as easily.

Part 2 of 3:

Nail care by type.

Know what type of nails you have. There are five types of nails. There are dry, brittle, damaged, soft, and normal. Each type needs some specific care needs, as follows :

- If you have normal nails, you are a pretty lucky gal! Your nails have absolutely no flaws (except for biting - if you do that.)
- If you have dry nails, apply olive oil to the bare nail and cuticle twice a day and massage it in.
- If you have brittle nails, it means they are too stiff and need moisture.
- If you have damaged nails, they split, crack, never grow, and desperately need help. This may be due to a health problem; see your doctor.
If you have soft nails, surprisingly, this means your nails have too much moisture! The culprit is water, so just remember to wear gloves whenever doing anything related to water, such as washing dishes or clothes.

Part 3 of 3:

Nail beauty regime.

1. Apply more than one coat of nail polish, or a base coat, two coats of nail polish, and then a top coat. This simply stops chipping and will make your nails look stronger, but if you don't have time to do this you can buy special anti-chip nail varnish (but this will not work as well). Another way to stop nail chipping is to apply some of the nail polish on the tip of your nail. Also, add a fresh top coat daily to your manicure. Using nail polish remover when your manicure chips will weaken your nails rather than strengthen them.

2. Keep it natural. Only paint nails every few weeks. Do not put on too much nail polish, as it can stain your nails.

3. Don't get tips or fake nails that get glued on. This damages your nails and makes them brittle when you remove fake nails/tips.

4. Avoid using acetone. When removing nail polish, don't use 100% acetone nail polish remover because it dries out your nails. This decreases their strength and leaves them open to damage. Put a couple of coats of clear coat on beneath your colored polish. That way, your nail polish will peel off on its own instead of chipping a little bit at a time causing you to use nail polish remover.
